Clubbing the Stigma of Mental Illness

On October 30, 2018, AEGIS once again lent our heartfelt support to Beacon Health Options and their annual charity golf tournament in support of the National Military Family Association (NMFA). Returning to Bayville in Virginia Beach, we provided Recovery level sponsorship, hosting the 18th hole, and entered a fearsome foursome of players. Mario Hyland and I were joined by longtime AEGIS friends COL Mike Wixted (U.S. Army, Retired) and COL Michael Holmes (U.S. Air Force, Retired). A number of golf balls did not make it home with us, but we had a great time, in beautiful weather, helping our hosts to raise $88,000 for the NMFA! Our thanks goes to Beacon Health Options for their hospitality as well as their efforts running this event for six years now, closing in on a total of $500,000 raised for NMFA and mental health causes! If we can beat down the stigma associated with mental illness – whether with golf clubs or other means – we’ll have done a great thing.
